<p>SOUNDBITE (French): Martin SCHULZ, EP President : The attacks in Paris were attacks on our liberty on our freedoms, an attack against our European values and our way of life, an attack against all of us. In our grief and our pain we Europeans are standing side by side with the French people, we stand united; we will not allow ourselves to be poisoned by the vermin of these criminals. On the contrary we will close the door to anyone who seeks to increase the fear and hate of others, if we start to suspect all the refugees then we provoke the confusion between victim and assassin, because these refugees are looking for a sanctuary from this barbarity of these assassins, these murders. These attacks in Paris must enable us to rally around, us Europeans around the value more than ever before, that we will defend our freedoms, more than before, than ever. We will be tolerant and humane; more than ever we will fight for our way of life and our open societies, more than ever before we will defend our democracy. We send to the families and friends to the victims, we express to all of them our feeling of solidarity; our hearts are with them today. We wish those who have been injured a prompt recovery.</p>  <p></p>
