SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The European parliament will defend de position of 3 millions of citizens who live in the United kingdom. For us, it is crucial to defend the rights of our fellow citizens, workers and students. We ask that they keep the same rights after the Brexit than now. We defend as well the rights of the british citizens living in the EU (1 million) For the European parliament, it is a priority. If no deal is found on the rights of citizens, we will not vote for the final agreement

It is much better to have a governement without problems during these 2 years than a governement with problems of election campaign. It is much better that there is a vote now in the UK and then we can start with the negotiations.
