SOUNDBITE (English), Frans TIMMERMANS, First Vice-President of the EC, "We have seen that Europe is facing a number of huge challenges, Terrorism I just mentioned, the migration crisis, the need to create jobs and growth. The need to face the changes in the world's economy and the place Europe is in. Greece, this is the backdrop against which we are working on our Commission work programme this year and next year."

SOUNDBITE (English), Frans TIMMERMANS, First Vice-President of the EC, "We are working on ambitious strategies on trade and investment, on the Single market for goods and services, on an ambitious package on the service economy. We will present an action plan for developing a real capital market's Union in autumn. And we will accompany it with a first legislative proposal in the most pressing areas and before of the end of this year we want to put to you a comprehensive and clearly much needed EMU (European Monetary Union) package. The importance of the social dimension and in EMU and obviously more widely is something President Juncker and I are both very attached to, to speed up the youth employment initiative we propose making one billion Euro available this year. We are also actively working on a Labour mobility package to be adopted later this year. The college will have a further orientation debate this year dedicated social policy immediately after the summer."

SOUNDBITE (English), Frans TIMMERMANS, First Vice-President of the EC, "Aligning our political priorities and planning can help to make all the difference to whether European look to Europe as part of the problem or rather part of the solution of the huge challenges they face."

SOUNDBITE (English), J&#243;zsef SZ&#193;JER (EPP, HU), "I'm glad that the Vice-President has mentioned that we wanted effective legislation, fighting the red tape including significant reduction of the bureaucratic burden, the transposition and implementation and enforcement of the EU legislation. Very often we do not need new legislation we just need to implement the already existing one the right way."

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Enrique GUERRERO SALOM (S&amp;D, ES), "In the social area we would like for the European Union policies to be done in which there is a way of cross cutting consideration to social issues, it is not just to say that we are in favour of social policy, I think that we will be able to work together in order to flesh out the various aspects that hemp for example: Combatting poverty and exclusion and dealing with this in terms of collective agreements."

SOUNDBITE (English), Vicky FORD (ECR, UK), "The majorities in this House are at the moment very narrow, grand plans are easily stalled. We do need less law but it need to be very well targeted to get the support. My group wants to put the economy forward first to support you and to put competitiveness first."

SOUNDBITE (English), Sophia IN&apos;T VELD (ALDE, NL), "I very much welcome the aim of the EC supported by the majority of that house to cut red tape. I think that is always a good idea anywhere, but it shouldn't become a goal in itself and quite frankly cutting red tape as important as it may be is not the answer to all the big challenges of today, it is not the answer to the refugee crisis, it is not the answer to the crisis in the Eurozone, it is not the answer to the dismantling of the Schengen area, it is not the answer to Mr Putin. So we need cutting red tape, but we need more than that. And I think what we need to keep in mind that what we are doing here today is creating the European Union that future generation will be living in."
