An interview with François-Xavier Priollaud, Vice-president of the Region of Normandy, filmed in the House of European History, Brussels. Mr. Priollaud begins by discussing the awarding of the 2012 Nobel Prize to the European Union, and how it recognised the Union’s success in bringing countries together voluntarily to achieve a lasting peace and progress for its citizens. He explains the idea behind the staging of The World Peace Forum in Normandy, the bringing together of people from all walks of life to discuss a global vision of peace. Normandy, scene of the beginning of the liberation of Western Europe towards the end of the second world war, he argues, is a very suitable venue for such a forum. Normans, he says, feel the weight of responsibility to its liberators to act towards guarding this peace. Finally he expresses joy at the partnership between Normandy and the European Parliament because of what the European Union does for peace.
