SOUNDBITE (English), Jytte GUTELAND (S&amp;D, SE), I feel this is a more political COP. It is kind of a COP where the window was open to changes and to make sure that the world will do more, and also, it feels a bit like most countries are stepping up on the road that we need to take. All that said, nice, we still have lot of work to do. And when it comes to ambition and the NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions), it is really important that more countries and especially G-20, understand their role and that they need to be much more clear about what they are going to do before 2030 to reduce emissions.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jytte GUTELAND (S&amp;D, SE), I believe that we will get an agreement. I also believe that there will be some things that have been talked about since you know Glasgow like the rulebook that hopefully will be on the table and we will have an agreement. But for me to be completely satisfied with this COP, I would also want to see ambition on the national commitment to do more for 2030. And that is not on the table at this moment. And so that is something where I hope that these last days that we will get more ambition and that more countries will say, okay, we are committed to also do the work.

SOUNDBITE (English), Jytte GUTELAND (S&amp;D, SE), Many of the pledges, if there is a new election, then these pledges can be gone by the wind. It could be someone else there ruling the country. But if you really are committed, if you sign, if you start to work with action and reduce your emissions with sectorial legislation and you promise to do it to a certain date, then you start to work very in the nitty gritty. Then you are more secure that itwill not change in a couple of years.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), We are in a very, very important phase of the negotiations, basically, I would say, and now we will have to decide what are all those pledges really valid for. And therefore, we now need the final negotiations to make sure that when we go out of Glasgow, it has not only been pledges, but also that we really have concrete actions. And there the wording matters and we're not there yet, to be very honest.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), Well, I think there will be a deal. The big question is what kind of deal? So we have some technical negotiations ongoing. This is about this Paris rulebook, some of the rules about it, but there is a big pressure to finalise that. And until now, Europe has always said we need a rulebook with rules that really do something. So I hope they can maintain that position and not just give in into a bad deal because that pressure will be big, of course.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), And then on the other hand, we still need to get a ambitious coalition. And I think here Europe can do that with the least developed countries. But for them, it's very important that Europe becomes more concrete on adaptation and finance. And if there Europe can make that high ambition coalition, we could get new momentum in order to have a good outcome. If that will not be created, it could also be an outcome, but with not so much ambition.

SOUNDBITE (English), Bas EICKHOUT (Greens/EFA, NL), And I think that final play is now going to happen in the final days will be important. I don't expect a deal tomorrow. This will go into the weekend.
