SOUNDBITE (Original), Hans-Gert P&#214;TTERING, EP President, It was a great majority in the EP, I think this is a very positive signal for the citizens of the EU and for the parliaments that have now to ratify the Treaty in the member states of the EU, and I hope that Ireland realizes as well that there is a big support for the Reform treaty that gives more freedom, more democracy, more possibilities to act together as Europeans; I think it was a very important day today and the EP took a good decision

SOUNDBITE (Original), Hans-Gert P&Ouml;TTERING, EP President, I hope that this is a strong signal to the national parliaments that still have to ratify the Treaty; for Ireland that is having soon a referendum, and these great majority at the EP is an indication that here we appreciate this Treaty because it gives more democracy to the EU, more possibilities to the citizens, it gives the EU more possibilities to act; so it's a contribution to a strong EU based on democracy, in liberty and peace.
