On the 28th of January, during the new years reception of the European Left, the 2 lead candidates of the group in the run up to the European elections of May 2019 had been announced. Nico CUE, lead candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission, coming from Belgium addressed his comrades in a restaurant, in Brussels.

SOUNDBITE , in FR: Nico CUE, lead candidate of the European left,  Saying that he feels very honoured that the European left has proposed him as lead candidate. Saying that he comes from the syndicalism world, 44 years of experience in this field, including 22 years in the factory in Liege, in Belgium. And 22 years in his syndicate organisation. During those 22 years in the Syndicalisme, the idea of Europe was always present. Saying that he called friends to ask them, this idea of a syndacalist that bring an idea of Europe with him, about the real situation of the workers in the different countries, does this idea please you. And the friends said, go ahead, because we still need this Europe. Actually we never needed it more than now.

SOUNDBITE, in FR: Nico CUE:  Saying that we need to have that strenght to catapult us into the future where the industry brings the benefit to all and where the needs of the socity are taken into account with a long term vision, that what is needed to achieve together.
