Pasākuma datums: 19/12/2011
Václav Havel is a Czech playwright, writer and politician. He was the tenth and last President of Czechoslovakia (1989–1992) and the first President of the Czech Republic (1993–2003). His involvement with the human rights manifesto Charter 77 brought him to the leadership of the opposition and led him to prison. The 1989 "Velvet Revolution" launched him into the presidency. During his thirteen years in office, he saw radical changes in his nation, including its split with Slovakia, which Havel opposed. He started the negotiations for the adhesion of the Czech Republic to the European Union, which was completed in 2004.
