Closing statements by Ana Paula ZACARIAS, Council of the EU and by Didier REYNDERS, European Commissioner for Justice. On 26 May 2021, the Commission adopted its Implementing Decision determining the date on which the European Public Prosecutor’s Office assumes its investigative and prosecutorial tasks. 1 June 2021 Is the starting date of the operational activities of the EPPO that will operate as an independent and decentralised office of the EU, with the competence to investigate, prosecute and bring to judgment crimes against the EU budget, such as fraud, corruption or serious cross-border VAT fraud.
