Monetary dialogue

The ECB President takes part in a regular monetary dialogue with Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

The European Central Bank (ECB) is the central institution of the Economic and Monetary Union and has been responsible for conducting monetary policy for the euro area since 1 January 1999. The ECB and the national central banks of all EU Member States constitute the European System of Central Banks.

Mario Draghi, ECB President, reports to the European Parliament on monetary issues in a quaterly Monetary dialogue.

The Members of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs welcome Mario Draghi, President of the ECB, to discuss the euro-area economic and monetary perspectives; an assessment of the risks related to abundant liquidity and banks’ lending activity; and Central Bank communication at times of non-standard monetary policies.

He will present the ECB perspective on economic and monetary developments ahead of a discussion with Members which will also cover the following two topics: " Virtual currencies and central banks' monetary policy: challenges ahead" and " ECB non-standard monetary measures, collateral constraints and potential risks for monetary policy".
