SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, In addition to that there are number of member states who think it's good to get from Brussels but not to give things to Brussels and this is something that we see developing. We've seen it in society and we've seen it now reaching government level and this is something that causes me concerns.

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, The fear is so dramatic that in a Country like Denmark it is possible to win a referendum on police cooperation in the moment of deepest uncertainty of citizens about their security it is possible to win a referendum against police cooperation, against participation of Denmark in the Europol cooperation. This is in my eyes, shows how easy it is to blame the European Union as a project, as a scapegoat.

SOUNDBITE (English), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, Europe is not a fortress, some of the member states of the European Union are behaving. Other Countries, my Country for example is receiving the refugees. Austria as well, Sweden as well. Secondly you are right, and I stick to the right of the individual demand and a treatment on the basis of an individual request for asylum. This is guaranteed. Third I can only recommend to go to Turkey and to look to the treatment of Syrian refugees in Turkey, they are much better treated in Turkey than in a lot of other Countries.
