European Protection Order: extracts from the vote and the statements by the rapporteurs

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Teresa JIM&#201;NEZ-BECERRIL BARRIO (EPP, ES), What we want it is that a victim has to be protected in an equal way in all the countries of the EU. This means for example, that if I have a Protection Order against a person who threatens me and this order is from my country, then if I go to another country within the EU, I would apply directly without all the initial procedure. And then, in this way, every country would protect me as it decides according to its rules. It would be automatically without beginning a new procedure.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Carmen ROMERO L&#211;PEZ (S&amp;D, ES), Today is an important moment because the European Parliament has said YES to the European Protection Order. This issue has been really a difficult one. The Spanish presidency has put on the table the order, however, it was not possible to approve it during the Spanish presidency. Today, I think that after several months, we can be satisfied because we have approved almost unanimously, at for 61 votes pro and 1 against, the European Parliament has said YES to the European Protection Order. And now, the Belgian presidency and the European Council must put emphasis on this initiative and can convince to some people who have doubts to make sure that the procedure continues.
