An interview with Alexander Stubb, ex-Prime Minister of Finland and current Vice-President of the European Investment Bank. Filmed at the House of European History, Brussels, in 2018, Alexander talks life, happiness, history and politics. He outlines his vision of Europe and discusses some of his more important experiences – Finland joining the EU, and participating in European Council meetings as prime-minister of Finland in 2014. He includes other personal moments from his political experiences with the EU, the burden of political responsibility and sense of freedom when he left government. Alexander talks about the values that define the EU, and his pragmatic approach to solving its problems. He touches on the evolving nature of the welfare state in EU countries and shares his philosophy on happiness, how we can learn from our children, and his formula for a healthy work-life balance.
