Statement by Charlotte KNOBLOCH, former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, on the Eurobarometer statistics on antisemitism

SOUNDBITE (German), Charlotte KNOWLOCH , former President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, It concerns all, pupils, students, it happens in different parts of life, the person that has experience it himself is much closer to that topic than the other one that just heard about it. Therefore, there is rising gap and to me it makes sense that the percentage is so high, the Jewish people are feeling antisemitism, the growing antisemitism every day.

SOUNDBITE (German), Charlotte KNOBLOCH, I never could have imagined that as a survivor, with those memories and themes from my childhood, that I would experience again this hate against Jews. There is a feeling we have right now, we in our community feel left apart and we hope that the churches and the different communities, organisations are being engaged to stop this growing antisemitism, because they are in the position to reach out to many people and to convince them that they chose in their elections the right party.

SOUNDBITE (German), Charlotte KNOBLOCH, Many young people are thinking right now about their future, to continue to live their lives as Jews in Europe. They are thinking now to move to somewhere else to escape the antisemitism that is a big problem not only for the countries concerned but also for the Jewish community, if Jews move away it is not a good sign for that country and how they treat their minority.
