Smart mobility, Fit for 55

An area larger than the EU was lost to deforestation from 1990 to 2020, with EU consumption causing around 10% of losses. A new law on deforestation-free products will make obligatory for companies to issue a so-called “due diligence” statement that goods on the EU market have not led to deforestation or forest degradation anywhere in the world. The largest share of EU-driven deforestation commodities are: palm oil (33,95%), soy (32,83%), wood (8,62%), cocoa (7,54%), coffee (7,01%) and beef (5,01%. The EU energy performance of buildings directive (EPBD) was adopted in 2010 and revised in 2018, with a view to improving the energy performance and increasing the rate of renovation of commercial and residential buildings in the EU. In 2020, Commission President Von der Leyen presented a plan to reduce the EU's greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55 % in 2030 (compared to 1990). This would require a series of coordinated actions at EU level, including the revision of existing energy and climate legislation. As part of the Fit for 55 package, the Commission adopted a legislative proposal to revise the EPBD on 15 December 2021. In the European Parliament, the file was allocated to the ITRE committee with Ciarán Cuffe (Greens/EFA, Ireland) as rapporteur. Fluorinated gases (F-gases) are potent greenhouse gases (GHGs), with a global warming potential (GWP) up to 25 000 times higher than that of CO2. Used in a range of appliances – such as refrigerators, air conditioners, foams and fire extinguishers – F-gas emissions occur throughout appliances' life cycles. Today, F-gas emissions amount to 2.5 % of the EU's total GHG emissions. The current F-gas Regulation is one of the EU's main instruments to fight F-gas emissions, contributing to the EU's wider efforts to combat climate change by introducing an EU-wide phase-down scheme for hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). In light of the EU's increased climate ambition, the Commission decided to review the F-gas Regulation, as one of the reforms under the 'fit-for-55' package. In March 1941, Himmler, head of the SS, ordered that a concentration camp be built to exploit the granite for the major construction projects of the Reich. On 3 June 2021, the Commission put forward a proposal building on the eIDAS framework, with the aim of giving at least 80 % of citizens the possibility to use a digital identity to access key public services by 2030 and to do so across EU borders. The updated European digital identity framework would also allow citizens to identify and authenticate themselves online (via their European digital identity wallet) without having to resort to commercial providers, a practice that raises trust, security and privacy concerns. Platform economy work is making use of an online platform (for example the one of companies operating in the food delivery sector, in order to enable organisations or individuals to contact other organisations or individuals to solve specific problems, or to have access to specific services in exchange for payment. Platform economy work is considered as a non-standard form of employment. Therefore, the working conditions and the social rights of platform workers are not enshrined in standard labour regulation. In the European Parliament, the rapporteur of EMPL Committee Elisabetta GUALMINI (S&amp;D, IT) presented her draft report on 19 May 2022. Instead of having five criteria to determine whether the platform is an 'employer' , the rapporteur proposes to add other concrete elements and place this (non-exhaustive) list in recital 24.
