But which should it tackle first? What are the key concerns of men and women in the street? Which issues do citizens think the politicians should prioritise?

Viewpoint: The EU has problems

Europe's main priority should be   to put people first

because we've created an economic   Europe but not a social one.

The priorities for Europe and   the Parliament for the next six months

are mainly to resolve   the Greek problem.

It's not just a problem for Greece,   but for the whole EU.

If we can show support to the Greeks   that would be fantastic

because my personal feeling   is that Europe is a great idea.

It promotes cultural integration between   peoples and cultures which is wonderful.

because I'm a scientist and do   fundamental research into physics.

I don't think it gets   the attention it deserves in Europe.

Stop discrimination in the world.   Everyone is the same, that's my opinion.

Most important of all is European unity   and strengthening the European Union.

Secondly, everything connected to   economic cooperation among countries.

Right now we're in   a difficult situation with Greece

which is showing if Europe can get   its act together and reach agreement.

Europe should invest   much more in culture.

We have everything here, the talent,   actors, directors, technical crews,

but we are lacking investment   and good European policies

that can compete with the likes   of China, India and America

and create a real, contemporary   European culture for today.

To work together   and look out for one another

The environment is a worldwide priority,

but the EU has the potential   to lead in this sector.

Employment, given the crisis it would   be better to focus on jobs.

To regain leadership   at an economic level,

with a European currency that cannot   be destroyed by speculators.

I think firstly it is very important   to survive the Greek crisis.

Then there is the question of solidarity,   we have to go in the same direction.

We have to show the world our strength   as a group, as the European Union,

and that the EU is capable of   solving problems and managing crisis.
