A new 'single permit' for foreign workers could soon become reality, but for which types of workers?

More and more pensioners and fewer and  fewer young people to pay for pensions.

and stamp out the black market  with a new single EU work permit

cutting through the red tape and  securing the same rights as EU workers.

People from third countries  who work on EU territory have rights.

From the moment that  skilled workers arrive in the EU,

it’s quite natural that their rights  should equal those of EU workers.

This means the same unemployment  benefits, vocational training and taxes.

The Socialists wanted to include groups  such as refugees and seasonal workers,

but talks stalled on this inclusive proposal.

We would never get a single permit  that includes all groups.

So I’d rather be progressive  and move forward, have a single permit

and ensure regulation for other groups  like seasonal workers in other directives.

The proposal should pass  in next week’s plenary.

Seasonal workers will get  their own rules in a separate law.

In the end, each EU country  will get the final say

on who and how many get to apply  for this simplified EU work permit.
