The News: Journalists - Europe needs YOU!

We need you to inform our citizens   about what is happening in the EU.

Four journalists   from Germany, Hungary and Poland.

They work for newspapers,   TV, radio or on the web.

and have tried to explain   the role of the institutions.

They've been awarded the European   Parliament Prize for Journalism.

My story was about people.   I went to six EU countries

and I followed people   who left their homeland

to work abroad   and find new opportunities.

Our report was called   "Who is afraid of Europe?".

The story takes place   in a Polish village.

We started a week before   Poland joined the EU.

3 MEPs and 6 journalists   have had to choose from 65 candidates,

short-listed through   national competitions.

The Prize emphasises the role played by   journalists to inform citizens on Europe,

a role which isn't always easy,   a member of the jury tells us.

It's always very hard   to deal with European affairs.
