Parliament debates measures to strengthen economic and monetary union, decides on red lines for 2014-2020 budget and reveals winner of this year's LUX Prize.

On the Agenda: Economic reforms, budget battles, LUX Prize

Next week MEPs will be in Strasbourg  for a new plenary session.

No growth, increasing unemployment -  Europe's economy is doing badly.

To reverse the trend, EU states want to  bolster the economic and monetary union.

But how? That will be one of the major  debates of the plenary on Tuesday morning.

This man, Olli Rehn, could eventually  see his powers increased.

He’s the EU Commissioner  for economic and monetary affairs.

Some MEPs would like to see him become  the eurozone finance minister.

But before that’s possible,  European treaties should be modified.

In the meantime,  it’s time to create a real banking union.

for MEPs, the democratic control of  all these reforms remains essential.

Budgetary impasse:  the story continues.

Before even thinking  about the EU budget for 2013

the EP wants to first finalise that of 2012,

The MEPs are counting  on the states to fill that hole.

Many programmes hang in the balance,  notably Erasmus,

Another battle will concern the future  budget of the EU for the period 2014-2020.

Several states want to freeze or  reduce the EU’s total expenditure:

there’s talk of a cut of  at least 75 billion euros.

as they reminded  on 13 November in Brussels.

The MEPs adopt their red lines  on Wednesday

before a crucial summit  on 22 and 23 November.

And a bit of culture to end with:  cinema and the LUX Prize.

On Wednesday the winner of  the EP’s prize for cinema will be revealed.

The three finalists are  'Csak a szél' by Bence Fliegauf,

'Io sono Li' by Andrea Segre  and 'Tabu' by Miguel Gomes.

The award ceremony will take place  on Wednesday at 11.45am.

In short, the week will be full of suspense!
