But the realities never go away and as the South African delegation was just saying to us, what they are seeing happening all the time is that when people sit down to negotiate, their own national interests are prominent. Politicians and Governments have still really not got over that hurdle. I mean, as far I can see, that is true about every country, including my own Ireland. We are failing to do the right thing, because we are still making short-term decisions in our own interest, rather than making the better long-term decisions which are absolutely crucial for the environment. 

SOUNDBITE (English), Mick WALLACE (GUE/NGL, IE), <p>It's all about the article 6 and the trading's,  the double counting, the lost and damage, but after all that are all things that costs money. The countries of the developed world will have the money but they are still reluctant to coop with this, unless the global North is prepared to help the global South to achieve their ambitions, otherwise it is impossible for them.</p>  <p>The South African had just pointing out to us that they are totally dependent on coal. They have an incredible number of people working in coal mines. How do you transit to a cleaner form of energy , how do you find work for those people, who do we up-skill them , when they actually do not have enough money to do so. Some countries can access money cheaper than others. It did pup-out that probably our best friend is being China. That something for the West to think about.</p>
