SOUNDBITE (English), Paul TANG (S&amp;D, NL), I'm very pleased with the subcommittee and I'm very honored of leading the subcommittee. I think it has a crucial role to play. I think the European Parliament has worked together it in the last mandate already, very well in four consecutive committees, has worked very well together and thus far has been very helpful for engaging in policy discussions. And I would just not say within Brussels and with the Commission and the Council, but also outside Brussels. And I think it's a good thing that we have a subcommittee that covers many nationalities. And I think our job is also to have not just discussions this in the within this house, but also outside this house.

SOUNDBITE (English), Paul TANG (S&amp;D, NL), Chair of FISC, Taxation is at the heart of fairness and raising revenue for care, education and so on. And so this is important. And we what we need in Europe is a much stronger coordination to arrive at a situation where everyone pays its fair share and we raise revenue to finance public goods. We have that in common. It's now scattered. It's still the competence of the member states. So the discussions are in are in the back rooms done by diplomats and civil servants. And we need to bring it to the to the public and to make the discussion very political.

SOUNDBITE (English), Paul TANG (S&amp;D, NL), Chair of FISC, I think there is a clear priority from the committee to make sure that the discussions among member states do not stay in a backroom, but to come out and show the public what possibilities are on the table and in this way raise the political pressure as well. At the same time, I don't want us to have discussions within Brussels only I think this discussion should also be taken to the capitals where we have the similar issues on the table. So for us, I would like to see the FISC comittee as a hub in a discussion on taxation in Europe.

SOUNDBITE (English), Paul TANG (S&amp;D, NL), Chair of FISC, Of course, we had a sequence of temporary committees in the previous mandate. Now it's a permanent subcommittee addressing the issue of taxation. I think with main focus on taxation of corporates and the wealthy. But it's it's here to stay. This topic won't disappear. It will only grow in importance in the years to come. And the European Parliament gives a very clear signal. We want to have this discussed not just this year, but also in the years to come.
