Members of the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) Committee had an exchange of views on a new legislation for a faster authorisation procedure for COVID-19 vaccines that have already received EU authorisation, but which are being adapted to be effective against variants of the virus.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Nicol&#225;s GONZ&#193;LEZ CASARES (S&amp;D, ES), <p>I just wanted to say that it's very important to adapt to the possibility that the vaccines contain the antibodies necessary for new variants such as the Brazilian or the South African. And I think BioNTech and Pfizer told us that indeed, within 30 days they will be able to adapt the vaccines to the new variants that will occur.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Jutta PAULUS (Greens/EFA, DE), Transparency is the key to ensure that people have the necessary trust in vaccines because vaccines will be effective only if sufficient proportion of the population who is willing to be vaccinated.

SOUNDBITE (Polish), Anna ZALEWSKA (ECR, PL), I would like to ask you to proceed cautiously and to give clear and transparent message and to dispel concerns such as mine, wether the Commission and first of all the Agency are capable to ensure safety, they should be formulated in a very clear way.
