SOUNDBITE, David SASSOLI, EP President, With today's vote, the European Parliament has adopted the European budget for the next seven years. We have a historic balance sheet for a historic moment: we ensured 15 billion more to support public health, research, the cultural sector and a common migration and asylum policy.

SOUNDBITE, David SASSOLI, EP President, A third of this budget will be allocated to the green transformation of the economy, in the name of the Green deal and digital transformation.

SOUNDBITE, David SASSOLI, EP President, With this vote, the European Marshall Plan can start, to help us get out of the dramatic crisis generated by COVID, and lay the foundations for a new beginning: a greener and fairer Europe. 

SOUNDBITE, David SASSOLI, EP President, And for the first time in the history of our Union we have ensured that the resources of the European budget are conditional on respect for the rule of law and democracy throughout Europe. The next step is a tax on digital giants and on financial transactions in Europe.

SOUNDBITE, David SASSOLI, EP President, Now is the time to have the political and ideological courage to carry out this radical transformation. The European Parliament is the only institution directly elected by the citizens and will be at the forefront in defending their interests
