Structured Dialogue European Parliament - European Commission: extracts from the exchange of views with Andrus ANSIP, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Digital Single Market at the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy

SOUNDBITE (English), Andrus ANSIP, Vice-President of the EC in charge of Digital Single Market, "The Digital Single Market Strategy should give a good basis to do so by focusing on three interlinked policy pillars. First, a better access for consumers and businesses to digital goods and services across Europe. Second, for the digital single market to work properly there must be high quality infrastructure which functions smoothly across all of Europe, we also need to create the right and fair conditions in the underlying environment. Finally, maximising the growth potential of the digital economy."

For spectrum coordination is the main priority and it is strongly anchored in the digital single market strategy."

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Pilar del CASTILLO VERA (EPP, ES), "In order to be competitive we need to show that the structure is there, that is the digital single market, we have to end the fragmentation which has held us back so far when it comes to achieving the full potential of Europe's digital economy."

SOUNDBITE (English), Miapetra KUMPULA-NATRI (S&amp;D, FI), "I think we need a push for the modernisation of the national public administration, and also the European one, so the e-government is very interesting and also I know how much Estonia has done on the e-signature so if Europe could do something like that it would be great. But then you didn't mention e-democracy so that could be something to add on."

SOUNDBITE (Czech), Ev&#382;en TO&#352;ENOVSK&#221; (ECR, CZ), "We have to ensure that people have trust in this project, not just individual citizens but businesses as well. What I thought was missing was a different perspective, there is ENISA ( EU  Agency for Network and information Security) . We heard from different agencies, different views, and perhaps we could use them more on a European level, this would give us a real tool. We do have the tools but maybe we need a different approach."

SOUNDBITE (English), Kaja KALLAS (ALDE, EE), "Many Member States have adopted digital agendas, digital strategies, are developing start-up hubs, but when it comes to creating scale for this innovating companies to grow by adopting common rules at EU level, they block the changes so there is a need for a real push to move things forward."

SOUNDBITE (German), Cornelia ERNST (GUE/NGL, DE), "Digitalisation of industry, you say we need harmonisation here, interoperability, which needs to be strengthened, I'd like to know what investments you're envisaging here?"
