State of the Union 2018: statement by Syed KAMALL (ECR, UK), ECR Group Leader

SOUNDBITE (English), Syed KAMALL (ECR, UK), <p>The State of the Union is an opportunity to look back at what Mr JUNCKER promised in 2014. And at that time he promised a common policies. But when we look at the issue of migration we&rsquo;ve seen divisive policies being pursued unfortunately reducing the sympathy for those seeking refuge and at the same time not bringing countries together to find a common solution. We also saw him saying that we cannot spend more money than we have, yet we see that a multi-annual budget has been proposed, that actually asks for an increase of the expenditure at a time when one of the largest countries is leaving the EU. He asked for an end to the ideological debates but my Polish colleagues see the Polish government being ideologically pursued by the European Commission, at the same time we ask for better transparency and we saw the controversy surrounding the selection of the new Secretary General of the European Commission.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Syed KAMALL (ECR, UK), Out there there are voters in many EU countries who think that the EU is no longer working, it&rsquo;s time for the EU to listen to voters concerns, to address their concerns, and deliver the type of EU that people expect for their tomorrows.
