In the European Union, democracy may seem obvious to us today. But this has not always been the case. Not so long ago, millions of Europeans lived through times when they could not vote or even speak up freely. When their very lives could be in danger simply for being different, for holding different beliefs or for wanting a different life. Democracy is a precious gift passed on to us from previous generations. They aspired towards it and fought for it. Now it is up to us to maintain it, to make it stronger and pass it on to the generations to come. The most effective way to do so is by voting - because the more people vote, the stronger democracy becomes. On June 6-9 2024: Use your vote or others will decide for you.

En décembre 1989, la Roumanie a été le théâtre de violentes manifestations, qui ont bouleversé le cours de son histoire. Rapide flashback sur les faits qui devaient marquer la vie de Georg: bombardement d’Aix-la-Chapelle par les Britanniques et montée au créneau pour l’unification européenne. Aujourd’hui, il continue d’œuvrer pour cette idée au sein du directoire de la «Société pour la remise du prix international Charlemagne de la ville d’Aix-la-Chapelle». «Mon histoire» est un projet du Parlement européen alimenté par des centaines de récits, de documents, de photos et de vidéos venant des quatre coins de l’Europe. Ce projet entend mettre en exergue le lien étroit qui existe entre la grande histoire de l’Europe et la petite histoire plus personnelle, plus intimiste, de ses habitants.

The video game ecosystem has become a leading cultural and creative industry all over the world. It has an estimated European market size of EUR 23.3 billion in 2021, and it encompasses more than 4 900 game studios and 200 game publishers, with great potential for growth, innovation, creativity and triggering positive change for the whole sector.

Video games have proven to be a powerful cross-sectoral medium, successfully inspiring and drawing on many other creative and cultural industries, such as films and books. According to the Interactive Software Federation of Europe, half of all Europeans consider themselves to be video game players, of whom almost half are women, and the average age of a video game player in Europe is 31.3 years. Over 70 % of young people aged 6-24 in the EU play video games, although the majority of players are over 18.

On January 2023,&nbsp;Parliament called for gamers to be better protected from addiction and other manipulative practices, while emphasising the potential of this innovative sector.

Avez-vous déjà voulu vous retirer d'une discussion parce que le ton était trop agressif et que votre opinion semblait se perdre entre différentes déclarations extrêmes ?

C'est généralement le cas lorsque les points de vue les plus extrêmes sont artificiellement renforcés.

En polarisant le débat, les acteurs de la désinformation veulent nous faire croire que les différences qui nous séparent sont beaucoup plus grandes que dans la réalité, et qu'il est difficile de faire des compromis et de trouver des solutions.
