SOUNDBITE (German), Martin SCHULZ, EP President, We are talking here about an historical agreement, the adoption of this report represents the final step towards ratification by the European Union of the Paris agreement. Our vote opens the way to ensuring that the whole agreement can achieve the necessary threshold figure so that it comes into worldwide implementation. One year after the adoption on the 12th of December 2015, this is a massive achievement and it happens just in time for the COP22 in Marrakesh. This means that the European Union once again shown itself to be a powerful leader.

SOUNDBITE (English), Ki-moon BAN, United Nations Secretary General, I appeal to you to approve this faster track, we are on the verge on passing the 55 percent threshold, you now have an opportunity to make history by helping lead the world to a better future. I can&rsquo;t think of no better way to secure the legacy of Paris than to have the agreement enter into force in record time backed by the support of the world&rsquo;s most powerful economies and its most vulnerable countries. Rapid enter into force would demonstrate a new Europe&rsquo;s commitment to international cooperation.
