Opening remarks by Antonio TAJANI, EP President: one minute of silence for the victims of the Manchester's attack - US to withdraw from Paris Climate change agreement

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, Today's the first plenary sitting following the terrible attack on Manchester on the 22nd of May. Unfortunately following that tragedy the spilling of blood by terrorists has not finished. There was an attack in Egypt against Christian Copts, terrorism has struck Kabul and Bagdad where dozens of innocent people where barbarically killed. On behalf of the whole House I would like to condemn with absolute firmness these actions of inhumane violence and express our solidarity to the families of the victims. They are innocent people who did nothing, who've lost their lives because of the barbarism of which humanity is still capable. Parliament speaks against that and always will strongly. So please join me in a minute of silence for all of these innocent victims. - One minute of silence. - Applause

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, I have to tell the House that the President of the United States, Donald Trump very recently decided to withdraw his country from the Paris Aggreement. It is a decision which does not meet with the approval of the very greatest majority of this House, for which I speak. I shall be talking to President Juncker and President Tusk about joint initiatives to be adopted together as a European Union.
