A proposal to extend by ten years current EU rules on the end of roaming charges, due to expire in 2022, is voted on by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. The renewed legislation will provide travellers with the same mobile network quality and speed as at home and better mobile access to emergency services for people with disabilities.

SOUNDBITE (English), Angelika WINZIG (EPP, AT), Rapporteur, The roaming regulation is a success story of the European Union because we save money for our European citizens. The citizens will not need to pay extra charges anymore for telephone, sms and data roaming and that is a good idea and we will prolong it, we have a recast now.

SOUNDBITE (English), Angelika WINZIG (EPP, AT), Rapporteur, We take the opportunity to make some changes and firstly I want to mention the quality of the service. The providers are obliged to guarantee the same quality of service like the customer has at home.

SOUNDBITE (English), Angelika WINZIG (EPP, AT), Rapporteur, We reduce bureaucracy for our providers, that's very important because baric established a new data base and they can mirror the information of third database and can give it to the customers.
