SOUNDBITE (English), Rebecca HARMS (Greens/EFA, DE), co-chair Green Group, The Council was not ready in this aftermath of the British referendum to take decisions on the refugee issues, but I am concerned that again there is postponement of such decisions. One lesson we have to draw from the situation in the UK is and also from what we see in other Member States, the refugee issue is an issue of concern among the citizens and we have to deliver better.

SOUNDBITE (English), Rebecca HARMS (Greens/EFA, DE), c-chair Green group, Yes, we have problems, we have still the need to decide on how we stabilise our common currency, so a true monetary union is one of the open questions in the EU, and we have to deal with in addition with the problem that our citizens on the one hand they want us to function better, on the other hand they are against the deepening of the EU. This monetary union which we want politically also, this requires deepening and the support for this among the citizens.

SOUNDBITE (English), Rebecca HARMS (Greens/EFA, DE), co-chair Green group , The Green group in the EP took the initiative to change the wording in the resolution () and we changed  the word &lsquo;immediately&rsquo; to &lsquo;as soon as possible&rsquo; for the activation of the article 50. I think it&rsquo;s fine to leave some space for the politicians and the government in the UK to decide on  what they are going to od and when they are going to do something in Brussels with article 50. But on the other hand,  we have not only to be cautious with UK and their representatives, we have also to take care of the interests of the citizens of 27 Member States, and a pending case will harm our economies

SOUNDBITE (English), Rebecca HARMS (Greens/EFA, DE), co-chair Green group, For us it&rsquo;s clear, that this task has to be taken by the European Commission, and I am convinced that the EP should be involved in this, not only by a consent vote procedure at the very end.

SOUNDBITE (English), Rebecca HARMS (Greens/EFA, DE), co-chair Green group, As Mr.Cameron said yesterday, at this very moment UK is still a member of the EU, they pay their contributions, they have elected members of parliament, they have the right for a commissioner, so how we deal with it is not yet decided, but as I said, I want fair play in the negotiations, I wan t also to play fair with our colleagues from the UK and with all other representatives of the UK.
