SOUNDBITE (English), Udo BULLMANN (S&amp;D, DE), <p>We were discussing with the President of the house what position he is going to take when he addresses the European Council.Of course the European Parliament is prepared - as always was the line of this house - to avoid damage, to avoid main catastrophe of the cliff edge , under the condition that there is a clear-cut message from the UK, of how to find a Westminster compromise, or if this is not possible, than of course to ask the people.</p>

SOUNDBITE (English), Udo BULLMANN (S&amp;D, DE), <p>We stand ready for a prolongation according the backstop of a sincere proposal of the UK about how to get out of that deadlock. Of course, the commitment to participate in the European elections is an obligatory condition to the Lisbon Treaty, and we will defend the rights of the British citizens, and European citizens to participate in this election on equal footing as long as UK is a member of the EU.</p>
