Space event with Thomas PESQUET, European Space Agency astronaut: introductory statement by Antonio TAJANI, EP President

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, Thank you for everything you did while you were up there, you showed us how beautiful our planet is, how fragile it is and how we do need to protect it.

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The space industry as well will allow us to deal with some of the industrial challenges such as climate change, we will be able to use it in civil protection, thus Copernicus, Galileo and Agnus are important there. Research is fundamental.

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, I think that Europe can be at the forefront if we make the political choices trough budgets. We shoudn't be reducing money given to space policy. Luckily, in the aeronautical sector we do have a defence sector which is having an important part in the European budget.

SOUNDBITE (French), Thomas PESQUET, European Space Agency astronaut, It is my first visit at the European Parliament and I am here to tell you about my work in space and it is a great opportunity to see things from different prospectives on daily life. As a simple European citizen, here on the earth and even when I go to space I always think that the European Parliament is a separate galaxy with very special and different kinds of beings, but I see, thankfully that this is not the case.
