European Youth Event (EYE) 2018 takes place on on 1 and 2 June 2018 in the European Parliament's seat in Strasbourg. It is a unique opportunity for young Europeans to make their voices heard.

The topics covered in this compendium are divided into the five main themes of the programme of EYE 2018, namely:

Young and old: Keeping up with the digital revolution

EYE2018

The EYE (European Youth Event) brings together at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and online&nbsp;thousands of young people from all over the European Union and the world, to&nbsp;share and&nbsp;shape&nbsp;their ideas&nbsp;on Europe’s future. It is a unique opportunity for&nbsp;16 to 30 year olds to&nbsp;interact,&nbsp;inspire&nbsp;each other and&nbsp;exchange&nbsp;their views with experts, activists, influencers and decision-makers, right in the heart of European democracy.

EYE2023, the fifth edition of the event is taking &nbsp;place on&nbsp;9&nbsp;and&nbsp;10 June&nbsp;2023 and will feature both&nbsp;in-person&nbsp;and&nbsp;hybrid&nbsp;activities in Strasbourg. During the event, participants will take part in activities&nbsp;co-created&nbsp;with institutions, international organisations, civil society, youth organisations and participants themselves, offering a space for&nbsp;discussions and networking. In light of the European and global context and ahead of the&nbsp;European elections 2024, part of the programme will focus on the role of democracy and youth engagement.&nbsp;

EYE2023

European Youth Event (EYE) 2021&nbsp;took&nbsp;place on 8 and 9 October 2021&nbsp;in the European Parliament's seat in Strasbourg. EYE&nbsp;is a unique opportunity for young Europeans to make their voices heard. Between&nbsp;3 000 to 4 000 young people gathered&nbsp;in Strasbourg and online to exchange ideas and contribute to discussions on Europe’s future.&nbsp;

Under the motto “The future is ours”, the European Youth Event (EYE) 2021 featured&nbsp;dozens of activities, debates, and workshops, as well as sports events, artistic performances and concerts. The environment and the fight against climate change, ahead of the COP26 meeting in November 2021, were&nbsp;a central topic for discussion.

EYE is a unique opportunity for 16 to 30 year olds to interact in-person and online, inspire each other and exchange their views with experts, activists, influencers and decision-makers, right in the heart of European democracy.

EYE 2021 is&nbsp;the culmination of the European Parliament’s youth consultation process for the Conference on the Future of Europe.

State of the Union debate - SOTEU 2022: Catch the eye

MEPs quiz the Council and the Commission about their response so far to the democratic backslide in Hungary and Poland. However, despite the deterioration of the situation in both countries over the last few years, the Council has avoided holding a vote to determine whether there is “a clear risk of a serious breach” of the EU’s common values, the next step in the procedure set out in Article 7. From her counter at the grocery store, she could observe the different reactions of her fellow citizens as the restrictions tightened. President Sassoli once addressed the EP staff saying that every single person is crucial to building a healthy democracy. He embodied this principle not only in his political activity, but also in his daily relationship with people, by gifting everyone with the same care, warmth and regard. The tribute film to President Sassoli was the occasion for the EP staff to respond with the same warmth and to remember him beyond his political persona. Through a series of anonymous interviews, the staff depicts President Sassoli’s portrait, dwelling on his extraordinary warmth and humanity. Beyond remembering him, the film presents President Sassoli as an inspiration and an example for the present (some of his words on Ukraine were prophetic) and the future.

This clip illustrates the first sessions of the four European Citizens' Panels took place at the European Parliament in Strasbourg in September and October 2021 and the European Youth Event (EYE2021) which took place on 8-9 October. In each Panel, around 200 citizens from across the Member States (a third of them younger than 25) debated topics within their respective remit. The European Youth Event (EYE2021) took place on 8-9 October, with 5,000 young people at the European Parliament in Strasbourg and another 5,000 online, to discuss more than 2,000 ideas for shaping the future of Europe. Young panellists from the European Citizens’ Panels were invited to participate. The most popular 20 ideas from EYE2021 will be presented by two young participants at the next Plenary of the Conference on the Future of Europe.
