Arrival of Antonio TAJANI, EP President, entering the European Council

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, For the European Parliament the question on migration is a priority. This is why we organised a Migration Seminar on &lsquo;Immigration Day&rsquo;, and to try and send a message to Member States. We have to move forward and the European Parliament is going to vote on the reform of asylum, and hope that the Council will move fast as we need a European strategy. This means that we need to look to Africa. We have got good solutions with Turkey to block the immigration that was coming in from the Middle East, now we need to work in Africa.

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, For us it is important to conclude the Brexit negotiations with good solutions for both the European Union and the UK. I think we need to have a framework on the separation before the end of 2018, then to start with the negotiations for the future, for the day after of the separation between the EU and rthe UK. Of course to be a member of the European Union is not the same as to be outside of the European Union.

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, We need to cooperate in the next years on immigration, the fight against terrorism and on defence policy. The UK is a member of NATO, a lot of members of the European Union are members of NATO, for this it is possible to work together in the next years, Thank you.

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The European Parliament is putting under control the European Commission, and after our resolution the European Commission decided to open infringements against three countries (Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic) because they are not respecting the agreement, on the relocation of refugees.

SOUNDBITE (English), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, We need to respect the rules, we need to work for the relocation of refugees, and also we need to work a lot for a big strategy of the EU against illegal immigration. For this we need to work a lot in Africa, we need to invest more, and to have a European strategy for Africa.
