Is it going to really help to rebuild and protect the rainforest, not only the forest itself, but also reforest the human mind, or is it going to be used to complete the destruction of all native peoples ?

They cannot be just an observer. They also need to give their opinion on how we can alleviate this whole situation. And indigenous people are not consulted. They are not respected and we need to be respected because we are human beings.

SOUNDBITE (English), P&#228;r HOLMGREN (Greens/EFA, SE), It may sound good that they have this ambition on stopping deforestation in 2030. But first of all, you can ask what are they going to do during this decade? Because we're in a climate crisis and we need to act now. And the other thing is, of course, who within Brazil will decide what is legal and illegal forestry? And that's only up to Brazil themselves to decide. So I don't think they've fixed the problem right now.

SOUNDBITE (English), P&#228;r HOLMGREN (Greens/EFA, SE), It's very important that the United States is back and hopefully then, together with the European Union, two of the three most important players and the biggest emitters at the moment, with the third being China. And if true, if the European Union and the United States together would really raise their ambitions and hopefully also then gain traction and find a new partnership with other countries in the world that would in fact put a pressure on China as well.
