SOUNDBITE (French) Yannick JADOT (Greens/EFA, FR), "We know that if we want to fight effectively against climate change we need to review our production model. This means a hole review of all the production methods. How do we integrate at the same time in a multilateral or bilateral negotiation this question of production methods? This will be an important point of this report."

SOUNDBITE (French) Yannick JADOT (Greens/EFA, FR), "The level of competitiveness between the EU and third parties when talking about the climate change issue is today in permanent discussion. The social dumping, the fiscal dumping, the environmental dumping and the monetary dumping... The objective of this report is not to treat all these questions, but how, via our commercial tools, we can try to restore a fair state of play from an environmental point of view."

SOUNDBITE (French) Yannick JADOT (Greens/EFA, FR), "If Europe has not an ambitious climate change policy and do not oblige its companies to commit strongly, we would have a risk of loss of competitively, a risk of loss of carbon, of course it would come again to our committee the question of to impose a border tax or other mechanisms."

SOUNDBITE (Original) Peter CZAGA, DG Trade, European Commission, "I just want to recall that there is a very clear EU position, EU policy, on this that was laid down in 2009. We also had a policy review that is built into the legislation of June this year. The Commission will put forward a study on the situation of the carbon leakage. This study is in preparation. We are looking at what changes, since 2009, do we have to take into account, the Copenhagen agreements, the effects of the crisis, then make an assessment to study if the measures established in 2009 were appropriated or not."
