European Elections 2014: Statement by Guy VERHOFSTADT(ALDE, BE), candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission

SOUNDBITE (English), Guy VERHOFSTADT (ALDE, BE), candidate for the Presidency of the EC, "It is clear that a very stable majority is needed in this parliament and the two big groups together, EPP and S&amp;D together lost more or less 70 to 80 seats and have no such stable majority. A stable majority is not certainly majority of less than 400. And that means that they shall be need to have a brother negociation with the third group in the EP and, that is the alliance on the ALDE for Europe".

SOUNDBITE (English), Guy VERHOFSTADT (ALDE, BE), candidate for the Presidency of the EC, "For the rest, what is important is that this new majority in this House agrees on a new lead forward in the integration of the EU and use this new lead forward into integration of the EU has an engine for growth".

Before the elections, a number of people said that the third group in the Parliament shall be eurosceptic, nationalist, populist groups. I don't see it for the moment".
