Roberta METSOLA, EP President, during her official visit to Ireland visits the Memorial of investigative journalist Veronica Guerin in the Dublin Castle Gardens. She was an Irish crime reporter who was murdered by drug lords in 1996. She also hold a town hall discussion with Irish young people. President Metsola and Minister of State for European Affairs, Peter Burke, meet with and speak to 175 young people from across Ireland's Universities as well as representatives from several European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPAS) in Smock Alley theatre, Dublin. The schools represented are from Donegal; Sligo; Meath; Dublin and Clare.

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, I'm here on the occasion, as you've just been told, of the fact that Ireland has been in the European Union, a member of the EU - at the time of the European Economic Community - for 50 years began. ...We need people to ask questions. Politicians cannot consider themselves to be above the law. It's not easy being a politician. It's not easy to be a woman in politics. But I believe it's the best thing you can do. SOUNDBITE (English), Student Alexandra, You've obviously participated in a lot of interviews, but what question would you have wanted to be asked before that? You haven't been asked as of yet.

SOUNDBITE (English), Roberta METSOLA, You know, at the moment the Parliament is going through a corruption scandal. And this really like I said, it's on TV this morning. Like, you know, it's sort of you know, it's like you were punched in the stomach. You know, it's sort of we work and we worked for years to build trust, to say, look, we were doing so much. So the moment my biggest challenge is actually take that problem head on and say, okay, this is not the first time things like this have happened. Investigation is still ongoing, presumption of innocence still applies, but we need to do more to recover that trust that we lost in a matter of seconds.
