SOUNDBITE (English), Juan Fernando L&#211;PEZ AGUILAR (S&amp;D, ES), First according to Annexe 7 of the rules of procedure which contain the guidelines for the approval of the Commission, Parliament shall evaluate Commissioner's designate based on general competence, commitment and personal independence. Then we shall also assess the knowledge of their respective portfolios, in this case the portfolio of home affairs and their communication skills as well.

SOUNDBITE (English), Ylva JOHANSSON, Commissioner-designate, Home Affairs, I am very familiar with working close to different political groups and to find a way forward on working with the Parliament.  

SOUNDBITE (English), Ylva JOHANSSON, Commissioner-designate, Home Affairs, We are lacking a well functioning and manageable system for migration and assylum. We need, we really need a common and sustainable European solution to migration. We need solutions that are predictable both for individuals and the society. 

SOUNDBITE (English), Ylva JOHANSSON, Commissioner-designate, Home Affairs, My top priority and that's going to be difficult, I understand that, is to develop the new pact on migration and assylum. It's going to be difficult, but I must also make it clear that failure is not an option in this case. We must have a common European pact on migration and assylum.
