SOUNDBITE (Original), Pascal LAMY, explaining the will of China to sign the agreement for the following two reasons: vote of the agreement between China and the US at the American congress and the nomination of the new president of  Taiwan.

SOUNDBITE (Original), Pascal LAMY, on the Chinese refusal from the beginning to accept joint ventures and  foreign investments in Chinese companies for over 50% (49% for telecommunications). In return, this position opened other possibilities for the EU.

SOUNDBITE (Original), Pascal LAMY, stating that an improvement of bilateral co-operation and financial aid is essential to establish the agreement. Contrary to the US, he prefers co-operation over control.
