The European Parliament’s Spring 2022 Eurobarometer survey was carried out between 19 April and 16 May in all Member States. The survey was conducted face-to-face and completed with online interviews where necessary. 26,578 interviews were completed, with EU results weighted according to the size of the population in each country. EP Spring Eurobarometer survey is looking at traditional indicators (e.g. image of the EP and the EU, membership in the EU, EP policy priorities and core values to defend); questions on the war in Ukraine and how citizens experience its economic consequences; as well as a new set of questions regarding voting propensity for and importance of the EE24.

Benefits of membership and image of the European Union

With inflation and the cost of living rising since long before the Russian war in Ukaine started, 40% of Europeans say they are already experiencing an impact on their standard of living

As clear sign of European resilience and unity, 59% say that defence of freedom and democracy must be a priority even if it affects prices and cost of living

The main priority topics Europeans would like to see addressed by the European Parliament are the fight against poverty and social exclusion (38%), public health (35%), democracy and the rule of law (32%), action against climate change (31%) and support ot the economy and the creation of jobs (30%)

The most important values the European Parliament should defend are: democracy (38%), the protection of human rights in the EU and worldwide (27%), freedom of speech and thought (27%), equality between men and women (23%) and the rule of law (22%)

Protectiong democracy by voting: 59% of citizens consider voting in European elections highly important

In European elections were held next week, 71% of Europeans (+13 PP since nov-dec 2021) would likely go to vote
