SOUNDBITE (English), Jutta PAULUS (Greens/EFA, DE), Shadow Rapporteur on EU strategy to reduce methane emissions, The Global Methane Pledge was brought forward by the EU and the US at the COP in Glasgow, so now it is time to revisit that pledge and look what has happened. The Global Methane Pledge said that the signing countries would cut their emissions by 30% until 2030. And this is so important beacsue methane is a short term climate forcer. It doesnt stay as long in the atmosphere as CO2, but it is much much more powerful. So by cutting methane emissions we can buy ourselves time to have climate action that is lets say more complicated like decarbonising the industry or the transport sector.
