A delegation of MEPs participates in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change which is held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 30 November to 12 December 2023. The conference concludes the first globalstocktake of climate action under the Paris Agreement, a two-year process to review progress and outline the way forward. SOUNDBITE (English), Peter LIESE (EPP, DE), Chair of EP delegation, There was a positive dynamic, it was also important that we a fund on Loss and Damage, where not only European Union but also the Emirates, put money in. It is by far not enough, we have no money from China and no money from Saudi Arabia so there is no reason to applaud, but it is a starting point that it is not only Europe, United States, Japan and so on, but it is also the Emirates, so that is good. But I am not sure how this will end. A very importnat take away, whatever the wording of the COP will be in the end, we need to invest much more on working with third countries on our legislation.
