SOUNDBITE (English), Pilar del CASTILLO VERA (EPP, ES), Rapporteur from ITRE, The focus on the need to incentivise investment in very high capacity network was proposed by the Commission for the reason that we can imagine how many money we need for that. It is between 500 and 600 billion of investment and this must be practically all, at least 90%, private investment. So with the aim of promoting investment, of promoting the deployment of very high connectivity through very high capacity networks, through (optic) fibre to home for example, we face this new regulation.

SOUNDBITE (English), Dita CHARANZOV&#193; (ALDE, CZ), Rapporteur from IMCO, I think the new code must be a win-win both for the consumers and the telecoms. Internet is now vital to our societies, so some people say it can be seen as a sort of utility so its distribution is as important as the distribution of gas and electricity nowadays and we must make sure that every has this access, including the people with disabilities. We want to make sure that member states make sure that everybody has access to broadband internet, that we can switch the providers and that we are compensated if something goes wrong.

SOUNDBITE (English), Dita CHARANZOV&Aacute; (ALDE, CZ), Rapporteur from IMCO, It&rsquo;s all about safety, to keep people safe. What we are proposing is that the governments and local authorities can have the possibility to send you a message in the case of emergency (...) So if something happens that you will quickly and effectively get a message and you will be quickly informed.

SOUNDBITE (English), Dita CHARANZOV&Aacute; (ALDE, CZ), Rapporteur from IMCO, The end of roaming was a great achievement but we should not stop half way; We have to correct the absurd situation when it is cheaper for you to call roaming that being at home so what we are proposing is to get rid of the long distance charges as we did get away with the roaming.

SOUNDBITE (English), Dita CHARANZOV&Aacute; (ALDE, CZ), Rapporteur from IMCO, We are here to defend the citizens&rsquo; rights and I see that this is really a concern for the consumers and we as a committee dealing with the consumer protection we will stand and defend the interest of the consumers in this fight.
