The international trade committee has put 50+ compromise amendments on the TTIP dossier to a final vote, to finally largely agree with the Commission's position.

Food safety, public health  and private arbitration courts:

the Transatlantic Trade and Investment  Partnership between the EU and the US.

Today Parliament’s Trade Committee  adopted a text on TTIP

that maintains the system of arbitration  courts, but asks for it to be reformed

to guarantee equal treatment  of investors and states.

We’re on the right path  with Commissioner Malmström.

But some are still strongly opposed  to private arbitration courts,

which they consider a threat to democracy.

It is a private parallel justice  managed by business lawyers

who can rule in favour of companies,  even against the European Court of Justice.

So we are in a system that privatises justice

and gives away our ability  to decide on health, the environment,

public services and social rights  to the detriment of the businesses.

This is not serving the general interest.

With the adopted text, a majority of MEPs  gave a strong signal of support for TTIP.

It remains to be seen whether the EP will  agree on a position in the next plenary.
