The EU wants to take drugs out of sport, and it could use the Lisbon Treaty to help it beat the cheats. We take a look at the main talking points ahead of next week’s Strasbourg session.

Doping scandals have plagued cycling  for some time,

and MEPs are looking at tougher tests  to catch out the cheats.

Budget deadlock, better informed patients  and the Lux prize for European film

are the headliners for  next week’s plenary in Strasbourg.

It’s up to us to get the Member States  to agree to these proposals.

In 2020 it hopes that some 100 million  Europeans will play sport regularly.

To do this it hopes to set up an Erasmus  programme for sports men and women.

What we‘d look at is encouraging  crossborder networking,

exchanging best practice,  all those kind of things,

how they run their clubs  and what they do.

And who knows one day we might see  a European team at the Olympic Games.

Budget woes will spill over onto the  plenary as MEPs vote on a resolution.

With talks on the EU’s budget  for 2011 gridlocked,

MEPs want states to put their money  where their mouths are.

How do we deal with the future  when there is a discrepancy

and the willingness of countries  to finance them?

If Europe’s finances  have you sick with worry,

then MEPs want you to be better  informed about the medicines you take.

Today we have very unequal access to  information on prescribed medicines.

In some countries there is good access,  in others none at all.

On the internet  there is a lot of information,

but you don’t know if it is accurate  and it's often not verified.

So with our proposal  we are trying to guarantee

that everyone has access to  fundamental, basic information.

The cost of delaying  action on climate change

is estimated at  500 billion dollars per year.

MEPs are going to the Mexican resort  town with a ‘Yes We Cancun’ approach.

The climate conference in Cancun  has to be ambitious.

We might not get  a comprehensive climate treaty,

but the ambition must be there  to protect the climate

and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions  because we are losing time.

Adding sparkle to the proceedings  the LUX prize 2010 will go to

one of three films  tackling tough social topics.

As Europe struggles to survive  the euro crisis,

Wim Wenders told MEPs that  movies invented the American Dream.

They can do miracles for  the image of Europe too.

What will the EU’s  farm policy be post 2013?

Agriculture commissioner Dacian Cioloş  presented MEPs with a plan

that focuses on sustainability and  better distribution of farm aid.

Member States and MEPs  will now have their say.
