SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The meeting went well. On the rights of the citizens, which is the most important thing for the EP, there is agreement in principle. We want to defend the rights of European citizens who live in the UK, and we are ready to give the same rights to the UK citizens that live in Europe. On this subject, we have the same position, the EP and Mrs MAY, so it is a good start of our work on the Brexit, we will see but, I think we have started well, and I hope that we will continue forward in the right direction.

SOUNDBITE (French), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, We are in the beginning, we will start the discussions at the end of MAy after the UK elections and after the decision of the Council to give the official responsibility to Mr BARNIER as unique negotiator of the EU. I think that the elections in the UK will give stability to the country and it will also help tjhe debate between us, so I think that it will be a positive message that will come from the UK. We want to organise the separation well, and we have to prepare good agreements with a country that stays a friend, that will leave the Union but will not leave Europe. In the domain of fight against terrorism, the domain of security and in the domain of migration, we will have to work together.

<p>SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The meeting with UK Prime Minister MAY was very positive, a good start. It focussed on the rights of the citizens, the European citizens who live in the UK, and the UK citizens that live in the EU. There is a will to accelerate things to give a clear framework to these people that otherwise risk living in great incertitude. For us, the EP, the interest of the citizens is the priority when it comes to Brexit, and we will do everything we can so that there is no loss of rights for the Europeans that live in the UK.</p>

SOUNDBITE (Italian), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, the European Council will turn to the question of Brexit, and I think that the decision by the UK to call snap elections will guarantee stability in this country, it will give us an stronger interlocutor, an interlocutor that can come to just and adequate solutions on Brexit, and capable of preparing a new agreement. The UK will leave the EU, but it will not leave Europe.

SOUNDBITE (Spanish), Antonio TAJANI, EP President, The meeting with Mrs MAY went very well, we share the position the we want to defend the rights of European citizens that live in the UK, and also to guarantee the rights of UK citizens living in Europe. We will see how the implementation goes, but we start well, in the right direction. In the Council, when we will discuss Brexit, I will present the position of the EP and talk about the meeting held with Mrs MAY. The elections in the UK are positive because we will have a more stable country, and I believe this can help in reaching a positive agreement at the end of the Brexit, and also as I have said, to defend the rights of the European citizens. For us as the European Parliament this is the priority.
