Europa Experience: Helsinki – get to know the EU

This infoclip delves into the main aspects of the upcoming regulation on toys safety, which will replace the current directive dating 2009. The new legislation aims to reduce the high number of unsafe toys in the EU, especially those sold online or imported from non-EU countries. Toys should not contain any carcinogenic substances, endocrine disruptors, or PFAS. Digital product passports will help speed up customs checks and improve consumers’ access to safety information. In March 2025, the European Parliament and Council reached a provisional agreement on new EU toy safety rules to enhance the protection of children’s health and development. The deal strengthens the role of economic operators in improving toy safety, and clarifies requirements for safety warnings and the digital product passport.

This footage shows Finnish citizens voting in the European elections on a ferry in the archipelago of Kemiönsaari in Finland on June 4, 2024. The ferry m/s Stella, which acts as the voting place, sails from Kasnäs to Taalintehdas (Dalsbruk). The ferry stops in multiple islands whose inhabitants may vote on the ferry. The European elections take place in Finland on June 9, 2024, but the advance voting period enables citizens to cast their ballots before election day. During the advance voting period, eligible voters may vote at any of the general advance polling stations in Finland or abroad. To make voting accessible, polling stations are also set up in busses and ferries in sparsely populated areas. In total, Finnish citizens elect 15 Members of the European Parliament. European Parliament decides on new laws that influence all aspects of life across the European Union.

The voting place shown in the video, Central Library Oodi in Helsinki, is known for its award-winning architecture. Apart from the top floor, Oodi’s facade is made entirely from wood. The wood used for the exterior wall is spruce. The library has ample space for both silent and noisier activities, ranging from reading and working to film screenings and cooking classes.
