In light of this summer’s devastating droughts and forest fires across Europe, MEPs discuss how to increase EU efforts to fight climate change. In a debate. MEPs quiz the Commission and Council on the EU’s immediate support to national and regional authorities, including through the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, following severe droughts and forest fires, which hit several European countries this summer. These disasters caused loss of life and have had a devastating impact on people’s homes and livelihoods, as well as on sectors like farming.
