The data act establishes common rules governing the sharing of data generated by the use of connected products or related services (e.g. the internet of things, industrial machines) to ensure fairness in data sharing contracts. Second part of the debate.

Data Act: MEPs debate (part 2)

MEPs debate on the goal to make the building sector climate neutral by 2050, all new buildings should be zero-emission from 2028. Existing residential buildings would have to be classified as at least E on their energy performance by 2030, and D by 2033 - on a scale going from A to G, the latter corresponding to the 15% worst-performing buildings in the national stock of a member state. Non-residential and public buildings would have to achieve the same by 2027 and 2030 respectively.

Energy performance of buildings (recast): MEPs debate

MEPs discuss on a deal reached with the Council in December 2022. Under the agreement, member states applying to receive additional funds through an amended recovery and resilience plan will be required to include measures to save energy, produce clean energy and diversify energy supplies, as foreseen in the EU’s REPowerEU plan. MEPs seek answers on how the EU is handling the massive tax breaks to companies producing in the US, a scheme that puts European companies at a disadvantage. The roughly €350 billion Inflation Reduction Act aims to build a new green economy by giving subsidies and tax credits to companies which manufacture with local parts or produce in the US from 1 January 2023, to the detriment of European manufacturers and in potential breach of World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.
